My work discusses the many ways our minds, as well as our bodies, react to tangible physical anxieties as well as the mental often dream-like aspects of stressors. Everyday people experience some type of tension or stressor that can affect their daily life. Many people are well aware of their reactions to these situations or feelings, but some keep them trapped in an inaccessible part of their mind. Referencing my own experiences as well as those gathered from interviews with others, I create pieces based on our different reactions with the daily stress and tension around us. Through this work I aim to create a new way of discussing and assessing these occurrences.

Stress and tension are evolving ideas so I feel that it is necessary for my pieces to reflect the change that the body can often experience. To capture this movement in my work I often employ different kinetic elements. With these moving pieces I am looking inward at the sounds and movements of the human body when it is dealing with anxiety. From the bubbles in an upset stomach to the way goose bumps form on the skin there are many motions in the body that warn us of, and or combat the tension and stress around us. The evidence of the evolution of stress between different people can be seen in the differences between my pieces. Some work can be loud, confrontational and industrial while other pieces can be delicate and silently clinical.

My collection of anxieties and stressors grows daily as I continue conversations with others as well as attempting to make sense of my own. I understand that not all people will see these situations as stressful, each person is different with there own unique signals, but I will continue the conversation and search for as many stressors as possible.
